The Authoritative Guide to Lionel’s Promotional Outfits 1960 - 1969 showcases the more than 700 electric train outfits (sometimes called “uncataloged train sets”) that Lionel created exclusively for retailers and promotional firms (Sears Roebuck and Co., J. C. Penney, Montgomery Ward, Spiegel, Western Auto, A&P, Quaker Oats, and many other firms) during one of the most important and yet overlooked periods in its history.
With limited production and distribution, Lionel’s promotional outfits are some of the rarest and most valuable products it ever produced. But because these outfits never appeared in a Lionel consumer catalog, their contents—even their existence—remained uncertain for decades.

Thanks to long-lost authentic Lionel Factory Orders and other internal documents recently recovered from the Lionel archives, complete information about Lionel’s production of promotional outfits is at last available.

Fantastic! Best Postwar Lionel book to date.

This is by far the most authoritative, comprehensive reference book yet on postwarLionel trains. Should be rated well above 5 stars! In my 45+ years of collecting postwar Lionel I have acquired several great reference books. This volume surpasses all others in many ways. First, its size: 846 pages. Second, its value as a reference guide ... the first 150 pages contain detailed background information important to anyone with even a starting interest in postwar Lionel. Next the Appendices ... 14 pages that provide any reader with multiple ways to search for the details contained inside the book. And finally, in between are about 682 pages chock full of comprehensive information on postwar Lionel outfits. Mixed in are details on individual items in the outfits, with details not found elsewhere. This book is a "must have" for any postwar Lionel collector.

This book exceeded my expectations in every way. Incredibly informative. Even has extensive info on the retailers who sold these sets. I spent almost every nickel I earned from age 8 to age 16 on Lionel stuff .... mostly post-Christmas sales on these promo sets. I still have them and am learning everything about them from this superb book. Kudos to Mr. Schmid and his associates. Tremendous research!
